Great Companies Are Created in Your Mind First

Where are you going? Where is your company going? Where is your life going?

Can you clearly visualize what you are working, striving and driving for? Can you see it happening in your mind? Can you create the picture?

If you cannot see it in your mind - then how are you ever going to make it happen?

All things are created in the mind - long before they are created in the physical world.

Recently I had the opportunity to work with a 6 year old young man. How easy they are to teach. His problem was very simple, how could he put a basketball in a hoop that was 8 foot high. First of all, he was a short fellow, second the ball was heavy, and third he was so far from the hoop. I watched for a bit as he struggled to put the ball in the basket. It just would not go up high enough, nor in the right direction. On and on he went, you know how persistent a six year old can be.

Finally, I had seen enough. So I asked the young man to stop for a second, close his eyes, and visualize the ball going into the basket. I asked him to see it in his mind; over and over again, watch in his mind as the ball went though the hoop. Now, unlike we adults, he had no problem with the vision or taking a moment to watch it happen in his mind. Then he went back to trying to shoot the basketball from about 3 feet out. He did not get it right away, but he stopped and focused and watched it in his mind a bit more, and finally, he started to make the shots. Then he stepped back a couple more feet, tried it, visualized it in his mind, and did it. Then back further. His goal was to make it from the foul line, and within 45 minutes, he had accomplished his goal.

Now this young man could have stood out there all afternoon and tried and tired and got frustrated and still never accomplished his goal. But by taking a few minutes, and creating a visual image, he made it happen. Further, what do you think will happen when the young man tries something else that seems hard, do you think he might just try and visualize it in his mind?

Yes, this is a real simple example of visualization, but the size of the task is not the important point, the important point is that if you can make it happen in your mind, you can make it happen in reality.

How many of you have a vision of your business and where you want to take the business? I don't mean a goal, a wish or a desire, I mean a vision. I mean seeing it so clearly in your mind that you can taste it, feel it, smell it and experience it.

You want to take your company or your life to a new level, then take some time and create it in your mind, create the vision. If you can make it happen in your mind, then you can make it happen in the real world.
